My daughter wakes up cranky every morning!
This would bother me except that, much like my advice that, “before you criticize the next generation remember who trained (or raised) them” I must admit that I am not exactly chipper when my feet hit the floor in the morning.
This morning I was sitting in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee when my daughter stumbled in a bleary eyed daze around the corner. “Hey babe,” I said, “can you pour me a cup of coffee?”
She said, “Dad, I just woke up!” and stormed off to the bathroom.
I hollered after her, “Yeah, it must be rough to have to wait on someone first thing in the morning!” This was in sarcastic reference to the last seventeen years during which I have waited on her every need in the morning by producing for her a made-to-order hot breakfast.
My daughter returned with toothbrush in hand to say; “Daddy, you wake up much earlier than I do… by the time I get up you are ready to serve!”
So, as I drank my coffee and she ate her cream cheese, green pepper and onion omelet the following three lessons occurred to me:
